Crown of thorns

Daniela, Jose, and Fernando worked hard one afternoon making several crown of thorns. They had talked about it in bible class Sunday morning and from there Jose rounded up Daniela and Fernando to make these. They were going to sell them for L10 a piece. There was only one flaw there were no thorns in the crowns.
Although the smile on their faces as they convinced Marc into buying a crown on thorns from each of them was priceless. They were so proud of what they had made!

hula hoop

Daniela
Cindy
Ana
In the past month the kids have come to love the hula hoop! We have some old electric tube covering and Denis made it into a hula hoop for the kids. Some of them could not quite get the hang of it but little by little they are all learning. Right now it is their favorite thing to do. We need to get some more hula hoops made!

Dentist

Last week a dental team came here to Casa to speak to the kids about dental hygiene.
They usually do this at the local schools here in Santa Ana but due to the political situation they got out of school early so they decided they would ask if they could do it here with the kids!
The kids learned properly how to brush their teeth. So now when we go to brush out teeth the girls are sure to watch one another to make sure they are brushing correctly.
On another note Ana went with to the dentist this week and we knew she had a few cavities and came to find out she had 12! So I am going to start watching more carefully when they are brushing their teeth and make sure they are not eating their toothpaste, brushing for 10seconds, or wiping their toothpaste on someone else. They are usually the things that happen with the girls when it comes to brushing their teeth. There is never a dull moment!

Nicaragua

This past weekend we got to take a short trip to see Dorian's family in Nicaragua. We actually got to drive which made things much faster and comfortable. It took about 5 hours driving to get to his mom's house.
We left on Friday and were back early Sunday. So we only got to spend all day Saturday with them. It was a much needed visit. It had been over a year since I had been there to visit his family.

oct update

October 2009

October was a very busy month here at Casa. One of our boys; Brayan cut his arm at school and we were very much the "scared parents". It is so hard to see them scared and in pain and not be able to fix it. He is now doing well. The children finished up their school year this month as with all the unrest, it was not going to get any better. There were almost no weeks where all the children went five days straight. Hopefully we can work with them during their time off to improve their skills. We still have classes at Teleton with the kids thru the first week of December and then everyone will be on break.
Dorian had a special service at church where some of the community and those from the church gathered and worshiped until midnight. The Casa children loved this and believe it or not they all stayed awake the entire time. But they did not sleep in the next morning as hoped. Dorian continues with his schooling and helping around Casa. We are preparing to take in some new children soon in our new dormitory. That is always exciting and challenging.

During October we got a water purification system installed by some people from Indiana and now the whole house has purified water. There were three national holidays celebrated in October and then the government called another one after Honduras made it to the world cup.

World Cup soccer is a major topic all over the country. Hondurans love their soccer!! Honduras recently played against El Salvador. Honduras won 1-0, but they were dependent on the outcome of the United States that played that same night Costa Rica to determine if they could go to the World Cup. And then, just as soon as the Honduran game finished, the United States scored to end in a tie for their game, which allowed Honduras to qualify. So many people were thankful to the States to make their come-back. The news was full of people saying, “thank you U.S.A.” Quite a turn-around as well as a bit ironic and funny.

It was such a big deal that, shortly after the game, the President appeared on the TV with the announcement that the following day would be a vacation for all federal employees. He encouraged private businesses to give their employees time off, also. The end of October we were told that an agreement had been reached with our government here. Not sure if it will hold or not. Be praying as elections are to be held the end of November.

We will be traveling to Ohio the first of December and I am hoping for snow. Continue to pray for us as we continue to be His hands and feet here in Honduras.

Blessings~

new kids

Jose Manuel
Esther Noemi
Last Thursday we brought two new kids home to Casa. Noemi was so full of fear but she is adjusting slowly. Manuel is wonderful, a little set in his ways but is doing well in the whole adjustment. I think he might be one spoiled child. The two new kids are in Siomara's house with her girls. Well the girls love them to death but they all really adore Manuel! I think Manual already things Josilin is his momma.
Pray for our kids, the new kids, and the staff as always when there are new kids there is a lot to process and work thru.

Lots we finally have internet again so I hope to be updating and blogging more!

Fundraiser

Dorian and Cindy
Food

the kids playing the play station games

Last Saturday at Rosy's school we had to participate in a fundraiser for the school. Everything was set up like a carnival and you had to buy tickets and use them to buy food or play games. Dorian was in charge of the video game. The kids all loved playing their turn. Each ticket only got them a 10min turn. It was not long before they were back in line again to play again. We learned very quickly how hard to was to communicate with some of the kids. Some of them were signing away to us and we had no clue what they were saying. Marc, Terri, Sandra, and Siomara brought all of the kids for an hour or so to enjoy the carnival and play. Some of the kids choose to spend all of their tickets eating and did not even play any games. Rosy loved that the kids got to come to her school. She was proud for all of them to meet their friends and see her school.

Rosy also had her last week of classes last week. She is now done for the school year!

one of the dramas

Last Saturday night we had an all night worship. Instead of having worship with everyone Sunday morning we had it Saturday night. I am not going to lie I thought that it was going to be a long night with the kids and not to sure how they were going to make it from 7:00pm - 12:30am. The kids believe it or not all made it till 12:30 and were in bed at 1am. A few of them had their moments thru out the night and maybe got some shut eye for 5 or 10 mins.
The night consist of singing, drama, games, food, and more singing! Most of the kids were in the dramas and all of the casa kids sang in english and spanish and said all of the books of the bible. It really was a good evening!
The to end the night we all took communion together!
