Humble Me

It’s easy to get addicted to praise and to fish for
compliments. We crave to hear the glowing things
people say about us. Humility, it seems, is impossibly
elusive. And yet to be humble is the absolute standard
Jesus calls us to. He lived it out for us. Paul wrote,
“Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to
cling to. . . . He took the humble position of a slave” (Philippians 2:6-7).

“Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth—a stranger, not your own lips”
(Proverbs 27:2). “God blesses those who are humble,” Jesus declared, “for they
will inherit the whole earth” (Matthew 5:5)

May we all pray for God to daily humble each and every one of else.

Our "reinaita"

Happy Birthday Reina!
She is growing into quite the little young lady. She is around 11 years old. We really don't even know when she was born, but we have to celebrate so this is the day we picked for her!
The name reina also means queen. Well for some time now Reina has been asking me when she would be getting her crown since she is the queen here at Casa de Esperanza. Well it just happens that a group left one behind and it was perfect for Reina. She hasn't taken off since she got the crown for her birthday! She loves it!!!!!
So happy happy happy birthday Mi Reinaita!!!!!!
Yesterday had to go to town for a few errands and well I brought her back some goodies. Her face lite up! A giant Hello Kitty sucker, a nerds rope, ice cream, and pop!!! She lite up! She even went as far at to tell one of the staff members yesterday that they could not punish her because it was her birthday!!!!! :)

Sisters

SISTERS
Rosy and Sisi

It is not very often you will see Rosy and Sisi acknowledging they are sisters. They have a very strange relationship. Most of the sisters/brothers here at Casa take up for one another but you don't see that very often with these two. So this picture I took last week I had to share!!!

Ladies Bible Class

The ladies at church for quite some time now have wanted to do a bible study just us ladies!!! Well it has been difficult to find someone to want to lead the bible study. Finally they all decided that we would take turns sharing and we would teach each other but also we would all participate and teach one another.
Last week was our first class. This week I was in charge of the lesson. We were talking about God filling and cleaning us out!!! It was a great class with a lot of class participation.
I hope that this ladies class is an encouragement to all of us!

Feb. 2011 Update

February 2011

Started off the month with a mini Women Of Purpose "revive sisterhood retreat". How refreshing and what a joy it is to be with all of the American missionaries serving here in Honduras. Jen Wright has done a great job coordinating this event and bringing all of us missionaries together. Already can't wait for the big one again in October.

Here in Honduras Valentine's Day is celebrated a little bit differently. It is not such a romantic holiday but more about friendships you have with one another. Everyone was sure to send text messages or send a little gift to let them know they are loved and appreciated.

The kids started back to school the 15th of February. Although since they have started back to school there has not been a full week of them going to school yet. Strikes or teachers meetings or something or another has been keeping them from going to class. This is SO frustrating because all it is doing is hurting the future generation of Hondurans. How will they ever start to get out of this poverty when they don't properly educate the next generation. I think when we add things up they probably go 1/2 or maybe 3/4 of the days in a year that they are supposed to go. Lets hope things pick up and they start to go to school more regularly. Two to three nights a week I am having to make phone calls to the director or other teachers to find out if the kids have class the next day. We usually don't know till about 7 or 8ish if they have school the next day.

I Turned another year older!!! This is my last year to enjoy the twenties as next year comes the thirties. The kids all made me cards with sweet little notes. Some of them even gave me presents such as dental floss, silly bands, and stickers. Kids; the things they come up with but I guess the thought is what counts. Also Bryan and Ana with the help of Dorian made a small cake, which was YUMMY!!!!

Pamela continues to have problems with her foot. She had to go back to the Dr.and he did a small surgery in the office on her foot. She now has stitches and has to use crutches. She had some scar tissue that was causing pain and also causing her foot to swell. Hopefully after she gets her stitches out her foot will be much better.

Blessings~
Dorian and Karen Guido

Breathe in ~ Fill yourself with GOD!!!

Breathe out empty yourself: of hate, of fear, of anxiety
Breathe in fill yourself with love, with life, with mercy
Breathe out empty yourself of busyness, of selfishness of greed
Breathe in fill yourself with peace, with joy, with hope
Breathe out empty yourself of idolatry, of self worship, of false gods
Breathe in fill yourself with God, with Christ, with the Holy Spirit

Josue

After blowing the candles out he got cake smeared all over his face!

Even though Marc was throwing a party for Josue and two of our other staff members who had birthdays in February, Dorian couldn't resist. He has to buy a cake for Josue for his birthday! Josue insisted it was HIS cake and he was not going to share. Dorian had to have a good long talk with him. Lets hope we are leaving the terrible two's and the three year old stage is much better!!!!!!
He loves that he is three. He proudly holds up his three fingers and lets everyone know how old he is now!!!!

Prayers for Rosy

Rosy really has made improvements while she was out of school. She seemed to be taking to her punishment more without getting so angry. She seems to be doing her chores more throughly and correctly. She seems to be more loving and responsive to the staff.
Well now that school started mid February she has went down hill fast. Not too sure what is bothering her or what is going on in her head. All of the staff is frustrated with her and unsure of what to do with her at this point. As she is refusing to do her chores, hitting the staff and other children for attention. Not wanting to get ready for school or brush or do her hair.
She is having to get up at 4:30am every morning and she leaves at 5:15am on the bus to get to school at 8am. It is a long day for her as she gets out of school at 1:30pm and gets here to the house about 4ish and then she has homework to do.
I know it is a change for her and long day but please please be in prayer for Rosy as she is struggling.
The only way to really handle her right now is with lots of LOVE!!! Hugs, kisses, and making her feel special.

burnout

Burnout = teaching God, but not experiencing God.
Be sure that you are allowing yourself to experience the gospel (Good News).
This was a good reminder from a friend. As times get rough and sometimes I just going thru the motions. I don't want to go thru the motions but I want to completely experience HIM and be HIM to those I encounter.

Mirian

We have hired a new house mom and she started last week. She seems to be catching along very quickly and very eager to work. She has worked a number of years at another children's home as the house mom. She is used to cleaning, cooking, and watching a house full of 10 kids all by herself. I think she will have a lot of experience to offer Casa de Esperanza. I keep telling her as she settles in and is learning if she sees something that she learned from the other children's home then to let me know if it will be helpful to us here at Casa.
We don't want to rush anything but I think we will be taking in new kids soon. She is ready!!!! She can't stand to sit still for a minute she wants me to find something for her to do. With her being in an empty house right now she is helping out here at the main house and learning the schedule and rules here at Casa.
Please please please be in prayer for Mirian and for us. This is the third house parent we have hired. The other two just did not work out. In order to take more kids we have to find the right person. We are praying that Mirian is the one!!!!

Pamela

Yesterday Pamela had a small surgery for her foot to take off the scar tissue. The scar tissue has been bothering her for some time but in the last month it has really gotten worse. Her foot has been swollen and was infected. So Marc took her to the Dr. last week and the Dr. said to bring her back the following week to have a small surgery done in the office.

She requested that Dorian and I were with her for the surgery. She was so scared and shaken up. She was crying and screaming before the Dr. even did anything. He had her laying on a table with her face down but she kept wanting to look up and see what he was doing. First of all he used a fairly large needle to numb her foot. Several injections were made to numb her foot.

She continued to scream and cry and so the Dr. told her she was a big girl now and was 13 years old and that this was not a torture session and if she was going to continue to be upset he would let her go and she could come back another day. The he was doing this for her better. She decided to calm down but I had to walk away from her. I think with me being there she acted out a little more. So Dorian stepped in and was with and I waited off to the side. I think she almost broke mine and Dorian's hand as she squeezed it so tightly as the Dr. was numbing her foot.
After the Dr. got her foot good and numb he began cutting on it and taking off the scar tissue. He had to put several stitches in her foot when he was done. When all was said and done she wobbled her way out of the office as she was angry, sad, and laughing all at the same time.
She cried for a good bit of the way home. She finally calmed down when we got close to Santa Ana and when we got to the house she took some tylenol and went to bed.

She decided this morning that she was going to go to school. She had her brother Antonio go to the bodega and get the crutches out for her to use. We told her it was her choice if she wanted to go to school today and she gladly said yes. After getting to school she had changed her mind and did not even want to get out of the van.

Pamela is a difficult time at she enters her teenage years and she really just needs your prayers!
We go back next week to the Dr. Will keep you all updated!
