happy birthday Jose

Jose

Happy Happy Birthday Jose!
Jose was quite worried with his birthday being the day after Christmas that we would forget about him and that he would have no cake. We reassured him we would celebrate and that he would have a cake!

Nov. Update 2009

November 2009

Come the first week of November we were sure to put up the Christmas tree. The kids were upset that we did not put it up on the 1st but we did get it up the first week in November. Then as we entered into November the kids knew it was getting close to Thanksgiving. So then the countdown began until we got to fill our bellies.
Terri made a lot of the Thanksgiving preparations and did most of the cooking. Marc had a group working with him the week of Thanksgiving building houses so we had about 70 people to feed for Thanksgiving. After a great Thanksgiving meal the kids were already wanting to know the next day when we were going to do it again. It was a great day for all of us to reflect and remember what we are thankful for.
We have been working with children services (INHFA) for awhile on getting ready to take more kids for the new house. We are happy to announce we have taken two more children. Nohemy 5 years old, and her brother Josue 20 months old. They are adapting very well at Casa and the other kids love having new kiddos at the house.
I was able to get away on my day off and go with Dorian and the youth group for a day in the mountain at the waterfall. The kids loved it and we all enjoyed the hike and the waterfall. It made for a long day but for a memorable one. The youth group were already asking when we were going back again.
We continue to have internet problems so sorry for the lack of blogs and responses to emails. We continue to work with the internet people to get our problems fixed but it always seems to be something new.
Dorian and I are planning on going back to the states for Christmas this year. We are excited and counting down the days until we are with our family in Ohio.

Merry Christmas to you and yours! May you have a blessed Christmas!

Blessings~
Dorian and Karen Guido

Youth Group outting

Swimming
Waterfall

The youth group in November took an outing up on the mountain in Ojojona to the waterfall. Saturday is my day off so I got to tag along with them. It was quite the hike to the waterfall. One of the girls came in high heels, another in broke flip flops, and in soccer cleats and then there was me in my rain boots. It was pretty cold when we headed up the mountain. Little did I think it would be hot up on the mountain. I didn't even come prepared to get in the water and swim. So it was quite the journey to get to the waterfall. On the way back Dorian had to end up carrying one of the kids because he could no longer walk with his soccer cleats down the mountain.
Everyone was sure to bring something along with them and we had a nice lunch together everyone sharing what they had brought. On our way back down the mountain we were sure to stop on Ojojona to share a devo with those in the church in Ojojona.
It was a good day of fellowship and the kids are already asking when we are going back again.

Fabiola came along with her momma Cynthia
She decided she would put on my boots although she had a hard time trying to walk

Josue

Josue has been at casa for a month now and he is making leaps and bounds. He came to us not very lively and we were unsure he could even walk. We came to find out he could walk but very wobbly and now he has quite the hang on it and is running all over the place. He is only 20 months old and acts like a 12 month old. Hopefully he continues to move right along and catch up to his age.

Just now getting around to blogging about our thanksgiving at Casa. About September/October the kids start realizing that thanksgiving is around the corner and they start to ask how many more days til thanksgiving and Christmas.
It is not only the kids who love thanksgiving also the staff. They all are sure to fill their plates and go back for seconds, thirds, and some even forths. At the house they usually get seconds but with thanksgiving they also get to choose what they want on their plate. We usually give them no option. The staff are all sure to save some of their food or make another plate to take home to the rest of their family. They have all learned to love our tradition, stuff their bellies, and be thankful!
Terri spends a week or more getting ready for all of this. She does all of the shopping and pretty much all of the cooking. She did a great job. She worked tirelessly! Marc had a Thanksgiving group working on building houses all week so they also joined us for Thanksgiving. I think all in all we had 60 people eating. We were not sure we would have enough but sure enough we had leftovers for the next three to fours days for the kids!
We have so much to be thankful for each and everyday!
Remember to count your blessings........

ohio

We made it here to Ohio late Tuesday night. We are here for a month to relax, enjoy time with family and friends, and to get SNOW! I am excited to be home and get to spend this time at home with Dorian.
Now that I have internet I will be sure to get an update, pictures, and blogs out there.
Please be praying for the kids and everyone at Casa and that things are smooth while we are gone and hopefully the kids will be on their best behavior. ;)
