4 years!

Today marks 4 years of living here in HONDURAS.

I look back at so many things BEFORE & NOW:
  • BEFORE couldn't speak spanish ~NOW becoming pretty fluent
  • BEFORE couldn't drive a standard ~NOW sure can
  • BEFORE thought I would never conquer driving in this madness here in Honduras ~NOW I drive like the rest of them
  • BEFORE praying for a godly husband ~NOW married to him
  • BEFORE never knew what it was like to love a child so much ~NOW I have 15 I call my own
  • BEFORE never knew I could call another place home ~NOW I call Honduras home
  • BEFORE I was thought I was humble ~NOW I am humbled like no other
  • BEFORE I thought I knew what poor was ~ NOW I have a better understanding of what it is to be poor
  • BEFORE I was blessed to have so many friends ~NOW I am blessed beyond belief by all the new wonderful people who I have in my life
The list could go on and on................
Thanks to all of you who have encouraged me, supported me, and loved me in the past four years!

Today was the kids last day of the school year. Today was just the end of the school year celebration! The kids were so excited about it. They did not have to be at school til 10am this morning and they could hardly wait to get there. They wanted to be out the door and going to school this morning at 8am.
They all came home with their bellies full and some of them carrying toys, cake, candy, and plates full of food.
They are all excited to be out of school, lets just hope we can keep them busy while they are out of school!

last day

Tomorrow is the last day of school for the kids. Friday was the last day for kinder.
Not too sure how much they learned this school year with so much political junk going on and missing classes and now they are getting out early.
We are trying to plan a schedule while they are out of school and we will help the ones who need help in the areas where they are behind.

Brayan

Yesterday shortly after noon I received a call from the Director of the school. He told me that I needed to meet him here in town at the health department that one of our kids had hurt their arm. I also asked him which one of the kids it was and he told me Brayan. I could hear someone one yelling and crying in the back groud. I know that every Friday that go to a big field for gym day and to play soccer and other games. So my first thought was that he had broken his arm while playing soccer in the field.
Anyways without wasting any time me and Dorian were out the door to the health department. Upon entering the health Dept. I came to find that Brayan was already in the room with the Dr.'s. Dorian asked the nurse where he was and she rudly told us to take a seat. Which is not what we wanted to hear. Dorian was not too happy about that and knew there was nothing he could do at that point but pray. It was time for the kids to be getting out of school, so off Dorian went to get the kids from school.
The Director of the school saw of was there and he stepped out of the room to let me go in with Bryan. As soon as I entered the room I saw Brayan laying there in pain yelling, screaming, and scared. I went over to his side to just touch him and let him know I was there and with the first 5 seconds I was in there the nurse told me I needed to leave the room and that I could not be there with him. Although in the 5 short secs I was in there I did see that he had a hunk out of his upper arm. It was probably an 1 1/2 inches wide and and 1 inch deep. I hurt for him just upon seeing the wound and the pain he was in.
After waiting out in the room a nurse came out to tell me that he was on the edge of cutting a vein open but it was missed, thank you LORD!! So they carefully put the vein back in and sewed him up with 10 stitches. He was in pain for awhile but once the pain meds picked in he was feeling good. By the time we got in the car to go home he was laughing and feeling good.

holiday

There was lots of craziness last night as Honduras beat El Salvador! Honduras now qualifies for the World Cup in South Africa. There was so much excitement here in Santa Ana as they won. People yelling and screaming and filling the streets. I can only imagine what it was like in Teguc. For once the streets filled full of people but not due to the riots and protests but in celebration.
Honduras has not qualified for the World Cup since 1982.
So to celebrate the president called today a national holiday!

Youth Group

The Santa Ana youth group along with our neighboring community Ojojona headed to Hospital Escuela last Saturday morning. Hosptial Escuela is the big public hospital in Teguc. Where almost all of the poor go to have their medical needs met because they can not afford anything else. A church from Texas had sent lots of baby baggies to hand out. Dorian talked with the youth group and they decided they wanted to hand them out in the hospital. Some of these babies are born with defects, others are in the hospital without their mom or family, and others are in there for months at a time hoping to get better.
The youth group handed out bags, visited, prayed, played, and listened to so many. Here are a few of the faces with whom they visited.

Gaby
One of the ladies that works here at Casa Elvia, her daughter was turning 15 and there was going to be a big celebration. She was sure to invite all of us and wanted us to come and share this special day with them. Here in this culture when the girls turn 15 they throw a big party for them. It is a very very special occasion called the quinceanera. There they had a special worship service for Gaby and prayer over her, lots of food, and pinatas, and music!

September Update

September 2009

September had it's ups and down with the political situation still in crisis. Things appeared to be calming down when Mel, the deposed president snuck back into Honduras the night of Sept. 21st. He is staying at the Brazilian Embassy in Tecu. Santa Ana remains mostly calm.
The second week of September we celebrated Children's Day with lots of celebrations in the school, in church and here at Casa. Childrens Day is a huge celebration in Honduras. We also saw Independence Day in September but due to all the political unrest, there were very few marches or celebrations. Our children were off of school a lot and finally Sept. 30th, they all returned to school. None of the children in Honduras have been in school very much because of the unrest.
Schools are trying to finish out the yea. It looks as if they will be all getting out of classes this next week. The children are studying for final exams right now even though they have had few classes. The teachers have gave the children study guides to prepare for their exams.
Dorian has started back with his classes on Sept. 21st. It was hard on me to see him go back as He has been a huge help to me with the children. Please continue to pray for Honduras and it's people as the political struggle continues. Curfews are called often and that prevents the people from going to work or stores.
Dorian and I appreciate all of your prayers and support.

Blessings~

school

So a meeting was held Monday here in Honduras by the school officials and they decided the school year need to be finished and wrapped up Oct. 31st.
Well the kids came home from yesterday saying that they get out Oct. 17th Saturday. So next week is their last full week of classes. They are in exams right now for the third grading period. The exams they are taking right now will count for the 3rd and 4th grading period since they are getting out a early.
For those who are needing help and are not looking like they are going to pass the grade they will start back in second week in Jan and go for a month. Then the second or third week in Feb. they start the school year over all over again.
As for now this is what is going on with school but it doesn't mean that by tomorrow it could be something different. The way things change around here you just never know!
