Braces

The kids have all been going to a dentist in town and she has been more than kind to see all of the kids for free. She wants to put braces on several of the children who need them.
Well this AM Rosy headed out with Terri to the dentist office to get her braces. She is a little shy right now with the braces but I hope she adapts to the braces.

Small group studies

Two different families in the church wanted to start having a home bible study in their house once a week to teach and let other people study the bible. Most of the people that come to these studies are not from the church in Santa Ana but are wanting to learn more and study the word.
Please pray as this will be effective to the ones who attend these small groups!

And back to school we go.........

Pamela, 5th grade
So the kids are back in school! They have had their first full week of classes this week. The kids all seem to be happy to be back in school. As always every year holds its ups and downs, but I am hoping that this school year is a much better one than last year.
Reina, 1st grade
Reina is repeating 1st grade as we do not feel that she is ready to move on to 2nd grade.
Antonio, 4th grade
Sisi, 1st grade
Sisi is also repeating 1st grade because she still needs to learn to read. She is already making leaps and bounds this year.
Linda, 6th grade
Jose, 2nd gradeJackson, 3rd grade
Cindy is also in 3rd grade
Pamela, Katty and Cindy in the van on the way to school.
First day of classes Feb. 10th, 2010
Everyone lined up outside waiting to find out who their teacher will be
Katy, 1st grade

Daniela, 2nd grade
Doris, 5th grade
Doris has even started school this year. She has never attended school before. Although she was estatic to beable to go to school this year with all of the other kids. I tired and tired to get a good picture of her in her uniform, but she was just so excited to go to school with the other kids that she could not hold still for the camera.
She is in 5th grade with Pamela and Brayan. Where she receives classes at Teleton they suggested that we put her in the public school system this year. Even though she is unable to do a lot of things, it isn't important that she does the work but that she associates with people her own age. So far she is doing well and loves it!!!! Please keep Doris in your prayers as this is a HUGE change for her.
Ana, 2nd grade
Brayan, 5th grade
Fernando, 2nd grade

Maryuri and Nohemy are in Kinder. They go to classes in the afternoon. This year we are working with a new kinder. We are letting them use one of the classrooms that the church uses on Sunday mornings. This is a program under the sec. of education and mostly helps those who are very poor and can not afford all of the school fees and supplies. The kids do not have to go in uniforms and they do not ask for a school supply list. So it is a wonderful thing to so many who do not have the means to send their child to school.
Please pray for each and everyone of the children as they start a new school year.
Especially pray for Cindy as the teacher in the first week if already having lots and lots of problems with her not wanting to work nor listen.

classes

Please cover the kids in prayer as they start back to school tomorrow!
Hopefully this school year will be more consistent than last year. Last year they went the average of 100 school days. We are hoping they can carry out the full 200 this year.

Also say a special prayer for Jackson as we are having a lot of issues with him right now. Today was one of those days I was ready to throw my hands up with him. Not too sure what to do next. I covet your prayers for Jackson and wisdom for me on what to do.

January Visitation

The two families Quintanilla's and Carrasco's
Ana and Jose with their dad and Doris, Reina, Katy, and Fernando with their mom

Every last Friday of the month is visitation. I went with the kids to Sabana Grande to see their parents and Dorian headed to town with the others to see their mom. The kids count down the days til we get to go to visitation and love to get to spend this time with their families.
The Quintanillas and Carrascos are very very poor. They save up the little they have to give something to the kids at visitation. The kids are coming to understand this and are learning to share with their parents. We pack of the kids lunch and take it to Sabana Grande with us and the kids share their lunch with their parents.
Ana...........:)
Align CenterJose with his dad
Jose and Fernando with their new outfits (thanks Brant Richards)

The girls with their momma!
Very rarely do you see Doris's mom wanting to give her any kind of attention or wanting to do anything with her. It is usually all about Katy and Reina. She actually fixed Doris's hair. Which I had to take a picture because it is very rarely you see them interact. It is good for Doris to get attention from her mom also. We all need and long for our momma loving!
Katy with her momma
Fernando sitting on his momma's lap as Reina is putting lip gloss on her mom. The two of them just laughed and giggled as Reina tried to put the lip gloss on her mom.

Please pray for these families as they struggle to find food to eat on a day to day basis.

Update Jan. 2010

Hard to believe that one month has already came and gone in 2010. I am excited to see what the next 11 months hold for us. I am always amazed at what God has in store for us.
We brought in the new year in Ohio! We spent the first two weeks in January with friends and family. We loved getting to play in the snow. It isn't often that you see snow in Honduras! ;)
We returned here to Honduras Jan. 12th to warm weather. The kids were excited I think to have us back.
Dorian has decided to take a semester off of school right now. So he has been here to help me out at the house a lot. It has been wonderful to have him around. It makes my job so much easier plus I get to spend more time with him.
The new president, Pepe Lobo was sworn in Jan. 27th. So we hope for things to calm down and for Honduras to get a new start this year. Also Jan. 25th all the new mayors took office. Here in Santa Ana we got a new mayor. Please continue to pray for peace for this country.
Also we have been busy getting the kids ready to go back to school. As they will start classes mid February.
The kids have also been busy at the dentist this past month. There is a dentist who is seeing all of the kids for FREE. She is wonderful! It is usually two to three appointments a week at the dentist. There are a few who kick and scream and will have nothing to do with the dentist. As for the other kids they love it and keep asking when they get to go back again. What a blessings this is for us.
Please continue to pray for us and our work in Honduras!

Blessings~
Dorian and Karen Guido

New PJ's

Fernando

Grandma Joyce is sure to make PJ's for the kids every year. They look forward to their new PJ's. She has had most of their PJ's ready since April when she was suppose to come with the Belpre group, but due to things out of her control she was unable to come. The kids have asked me several times since when they were going to get their PJ's she had made them.
Well when I went home for Christmas I got to bring back the kids PJ's. The kids love them so much that they want to wear them every night!
