Chicken Foot

So in all of these rainy days the kids have learned to play chicken foot or otherwise known as mexican train. They love it!!! They keep wanting to play and play and play. Although I do have to keep a close watch on them when they play they can get quit sneaky! The pictures did not come out so clear so sorry about the fuzziness! I figured all of you from Belpre who get together and play this frequently would enjoy seeing the kids playing one of your favorite games!

So it seems to be as if we are going to see the rain for awhile. The news said today that we will have three more days of steady rain. As we have already had rain all week and now more days of rain. It doesn't take much rain here to make things yucky and messy! Many people suffer beyond what we can even imagine. So be thinking and praying for many of those here who are suffering.

Hopefully the sun will be here soon!!!

These are the babies of the house. Not so much babies any more! They growing up on us! Pray for these two as they are getting older they are getting a little more attitude and testing limits, which is normal. Although for me at times I need an abundance of wisdom on how to punish them and how to train them up in the way of our GOD!

September Update

September Update 2008

Well the rainy season arrived but whenever I get tired of the wet and dampness I am reminded of the hundreds who have lost their homes during the rain. There is little drainage here in Honduras, so a quick rain shower can sweep away homes on the sides of mountains.
September 12, was Children's day here and it is quite a celebration. Another celebration was independence day. The children love the celebrations with parades, pinatas and costumes.
The schools are having problems with strikes as the teachers were not getting paid. So the schools have been inconsistent and the children end of attending an average of 3 days per week. We continued with testing for Rosita but no concrete results. Communicating with her has been a challenge but she communicates with us just fine and gets along pretty well for the most part. Behavior issues have been a problem with her but we have seen some progress. Pamela is still awaiting for authorization for surgery on her foot. Her mother did give her written permission so the process is moving, but slowly.
We are moving along with the building of another dorm so that we can offer a home for more children.
Dorian was able to go visit his mother in Nicaragua for a week. He really didn't do much visiting as he was there to get papers out and such and the system just does not move so fast and it was lots of days of waiting and traveling. He returned home on a Sunday and on Monday he was in hospital having emergency surgery to have his appendix removed. Public healthcare in Honduras is dangerous at best so we went to a private hospital and while it was very inexpensive compared to United States, there are very few here who can afford it. Cost of Dorian's operation is approximately $3500 and while a bargain, it is quite a sum for us. We are currently attempting to raise monies for the surgery so that we can continue to minister and not fundraise. Dorian has not fully recovered yet and has a drain still from the operation and continues to be on antibiotics. Happy Birthday Sisi

Today Miss Sisi turned 7 years old. We celebrated with the normal cake we have here at Casa, I tired to take pictures but as of right now of the three cameras I have none of them seem to be working. A little frustrating, but it's not the end of the world.

I told her she was seven years old now and as they day went on several people asked, "Sisi how old  are you?" Well she sat with a empty words and never answered. So today we have practiced saying she is seven but just can't seem to get it. It will come. Hey, I forget how old I am at times!

Also wanted a tell you a little story. Yesterday the kids were outside playing and Sisi comes up to me and says, "God is good." I responded by telling He sure is. And I told her you know what, God made the trees, the flowers, all the animals, and us. And she responds by saying, "Even the gringos?" Yes Sisi even the gringos!!!

Home sweet home

For those of you who did not know Monday Dorian was operated on for his appendix. He had just gotten back from Nicaragua the night before. They said that is was at the point of bursting but that they got it out in time.

Thank you for all of your prayers for Dorian. We just got home and he is on his way to recovering. Now we just need to pray for help on paying all of the bills we have from the hospital. Our God is great big and faithful and I know he will provide!

Update on Rosita!

For those of you asking and wondering about Rostia, well we still have not got anywhere with the testing. The Dr. saw her three times and in those times could not get accurate tests done for her hearing. She seemed to raise her hand at times and then at other times did not raise it when there was a beep. So we were referred by the Dr. to another place that will work with her and test her. They are telling us to keep her up all night and then come in for testing and she then will respond more accurately. But what I am wanting to know who is volunteering to stay up with her all night and keep her awake!?!?!

I will continue to keep you all updated as we do more testing.

Rosita Update

We still need to do more testing on Rosita after today. The Dr. says she is not cooperating well and we need to spend more time with her with a whistle and her responding. Then they are going to try again next Wed. to see where we get. I will continue to keep you updated.

Dia de el Nino

Today here in Honduras is celebrating kids day! It is huge celebration! There is lots of work and preparation that goes into all of this. The teachers in school have been selling raffle tickets and doing other projects to raise money to celebrate this day now for months or longer. The kids have waited a long time for this day. They hear so much talk about this day but have anticipated this day for a while now. Fernando wakes up some morning and says is today the day for the pinata. Yesterday I told him it was when he woke up today! So the will go off to school today and have a huge celebration.
Last Sunday we celebrated it in the church. And here some pictures from that.................

Our new houseparents, Fernando and Brenda are adapting to life here at Casa and working with us right now with our children. We are trying to get them a place built and ready so that they will be in a building with 8-10 children. Right now they are working with the 13 that we have right now.
Rosita, who came to Casa in July has been to many appointments here and the latest doctor's appointment indicates that she may have some hearing in her right ear. We go back next week to have a more accurate test of her hearing.
My Dad was able to visit this month for 10 days and it was good to have him here as he fixed so many things and was a huge help here at Casa.
My wonderful husband Dorian has not been feeling well at all this month. He has not been able to keep food down and has lost over 20 pounds. We finally found a specialist that started him on some medicine and it has helped him some. We both get every Monday off and we have been spending it going to his doctor's appointments. He is to have a test for a parasite this coming Monday and then maybe a scope of his stomach. He is getting discouraged and having a hard time keeping up with all of his duties as minister. Please pray for his complete healing.
Terri Tindall sent out the first Casa newsletter so let me know if you did not receive it and I will see that you receive it. Jen and I came to Casa de Esperanza in October 2005 but during the last few months she has decided to do other ministry work here in Honduras, so she has left the Casa family but we still expect to see her here from time to time to love on the children. Pamela is seeing a plastic surgeon now also and we are trying to get permission for her to have surgery on her foot. She was hit by a bus when she was younger and the surgeon then did not do a good job and she is in a lot of pain and it bleeds almost daily.
Life in Honduras is never boring, as somedays we do not have electricity, some we do not have water. Some days there are transportation strikes and our help can not get here. And on one ocassion this month my showerhead almost caught on fire. Never a dull moment here. But God is good and always turns whatever is meant for bad into good for us here at Casa. Right now we are in the process of trying to get things approved for Pamela to have surgery. She came here to live at Casa in May 2007. A couple of years before coming here she got hit by a truck. So she was taken to the hospital and had plastic surgery. Well I do not know if she did have a good job the first time or what but she is normally in lots of pain when she walks a lot. She mostly puts all of her weight on the other foot so both feet end up hurting. She hardly ever walks on the ball of her foot because that is where the problem is and where she puts lots of pressure.
After seeing a good plastic surgeon he is wanting to do plastic surgery to stop the pain she is in. So right now I am just trying to get permission. It is not an easy task. Have already shown the Dr.'s letter and talked to a few high ups but still have some more people to go thru before getting it approved.
I will be sure to keep you all updated on the process of how things are going!

Rosita update

Yesterday Rosita went to Hospital Escuela and was tested in the audiology booth. The Dr. seemed to think in the right ear she can hear some what but he can not tell the damage at this point done at this point to the ear. She was raising her hand at times when there was no sounds and other times she raised it with sounds. So next Wed. we are to go back again and the Dr. wants to do the more tests to see if they match to what she did yesterday. He wants to get a consistent results before moving on with the next step we need to make with her.
So it a step in the right direction.....she does have hearing we just do not know to what extent or anything yet. So keep praying!

Last Friday was visitation......we all piled in the van and the kids all anxiously wait to see their mommas. Well this week only Brayan's mom showed up but the kids still enjoyed getting out and playing!
