Aug. 08 Newsletter

Our new houseparents, Fernando and Brenda are adapting to life here at Casa and working with us right now with our children. We are trying to get them a place built and ready so that they will be in a building with 8-10 children. Right now they are working with the 13 that we have right now.
Rosita, who came to Casa in July has been to many appointments here and the latest doctor's appointment indicates that she may have some hearing in her right ear. We go back next week to have a more accurate test of her hearing.
My Dad was able to visit this month for 10 days and it was good to have him here as he fixed so many things and was a huge help here at Casa.
My wonderful husband Dorian has not been feeling well at all this month. He has not been able to keep food down and has lost over 20 pounds. We finally found a specialist that started him on some medicine and it has helped him some. We both get every Monday off and we have been spending it going to his doctor's appointments. He is to have a test for a parasite this coming Monday and then maybe a scope of his stomach. He is getting discouraged and having a hard time keeping up with all of his duties as minister. Please pray for his complete healing.
Terri Tindall sent out the first Casa newsletter so let me know if you did not receive it and I will see that you receive it. Jen and I came to Casa de Esperanza in October 2005 but during the last few months she has decided to do other ministry work here in Honduras, so she has left the Casa family but we still expect to see her here from time to time to love on the children. Pamela is seeing a plastic surgeon now also and we are trying to get permission for her to have surgery on her foot. She was hit by a bus when she was younger and the surgeon then did not do a good job and she is in a lot of pain and it bleeds almost daily.
Life in Honduras is never boring, as somedays we do not have electricity, some we do not have water. Some days there are transportation strikes and our help can not get here. And on one ocassion this month my showerhead almost caught on fire. Never a dull moment here. But God is good and always turns whatever is meant for bad into good for us here at Casa. Pamela

Right now we are in the process of trying to get things approved for Pamela to have surgery. She came here to live at Casa in May 2007. A couple of years before coming here she got hit by a truck. So she was taken to the hospital and had plastic surgery. Well I do not know if she did have a good job the first time or what but she is normally in lots of pain when she walks a lot. She mostly puts all of her weight on the other foot so both feet end up hurting. She hardly ever walks on the ball of her foot because that is where the problem is and where she puts lots of pressure.
After seeing a good plastic surgeon he is wanting to do plastic surgery to stop the pain she is in. So right now I am just trying to get permission. It is not an easy task. Have already shown the Dr.'s letter and talked to a few high ups but still have some more people to go thru before getting it approved.
I will be sure to keep you all updated on the process of how things are going!

Rosita update

Yesterday Rosita went to Hospital Escuela and was tested in the audiology booth. The Dr. seemed to think in the right ear she can hear some what but he can not tell the damage at this point done at this point to the ear. She was raising her hand at times when there was no sounds and other times she raised it with sounds. So next Wed. we are to go back again and the Dr. wants to do the more tests to see if they match to what she did yesterday. He wants to get a consistent results before moving on with the next step we need to make with her.
So it a step in the right direction.....she does have hearing we just do not know to what extent or anything yet. So keep praying!

Last Friday was visitation......we all piled in the van and the kids all anxiously wait to see their mommas. Well this week only Brayan's mom showed up but the kids still enjoyed getting out and playing!

Yard Work

I suggested to the kids the other day that we would go and help Denis rake and clean up the grass. Denis is our grounds keeper and he was busy cutting the grass with a machete and let me tell you that wears me out just watching him. I can not even imagine having to cut each blade of grass by hand.
Well we starting the raking and sweeping in the morning. Well after lunch and nap time the kids were sure to ask me if we were going to help again and then the following day sure enough they wanted to be out there again. It might just be one of their favorite past times now. I am sure it will not be long before they are tired of it and ready to move onto something new. But for now here are some pics of my happy helpers here below!

Rosita

For most of you who keep up with my blog you have read about little Rosita! She has been here at Casa for about a month now. She came to us and is unable to hear, so there for she is unable to speak. We are doing our best to communicate with her and it looks like I might even learn another language yet, sign language. I never would have imagined learning more than one and here I go with another.
We are in the process of getting her tested to see if there is a possibility for her to hear with hearing aids. We have been told she has been tested before and it says she is unable to hear, but hey we are not giving up on her. We were told she lost her hearing at a young age due to her mother not taking care of her.
So last week started the testing. She went to the Dr. and he talked about the steps we need to take with her now. The Dr. are saying because she is 9 years old that even with hearing aids it is going to hard for her to learn to speak. They are saying past age 6 it is hard to learn to develop the skills to speak. She goes next week to get her ears cleaned and then the following week for the full exam. In the mean time we are to be training her with a whistle. Every time she hears a whistle when we blow it she is to respond by putting her hand up. So we shall start here and see where we get.
I am writing this to plead with all of you out there to take time to pray for this little girl. We have a great BIG God and I am not giving up on Rosita yet and I am praying to God that she will be able to hear. I will continue to keep you all update but please lift Rostia before our Great Big GOD!

Here at Casa this past week we had lots and lots of repairs done! It has saved lots of time and money for what we would have had to spend to do these projects!

Rosita Happy Bday!!

Yesterday was Rosita's bday! It was hard for us to get the point across to her at first that it was even her bday but once we got the cake out I think she understood!

Today...

Today was just one of those days............

First of all one of our workers fell to the floor this morning in the midist or working. We hurried around and got her off to the Dr.
Then one of the kids parents showed up at the gate and wanted to visit the kids. Which we do not let the parents know where we are and they are not allowed to visit on our property. So that was another deal.
Then tonight I went to take a shower and my shower head caught on fire. So I scream and yell for Ashley. Me and her grap cups of water not even thinking it is an elec fire. Thank you Lord by the time we got in there the fire was out and we did not throw the water on it. Scary to think I am in charge of 13 kids and here I am ready to throw water on a elec. fire. Was just in panic mode I believe.
So I am thinking now I need to get to bed quick before I have another adventure to add to my day. But first of all I will thank our God for protecting and taking care of me everyday and for loving me the way He does!

July Report

I am finally going to do something that I have wanted to do for so long, write a brief update on how things are here every month at Casa. Dorian already does monthly newsletters from the church so I will try to post what is going on in the church also for those of you that want to know. But for now here is the casa update..............

July 2008

The first part of July was spent in the states getting to take a break from everything. I went back to the states because the doctors here in Honduras thought that I needed to have kidney surgery. Well as tests were completed in the states it was evident that we have a great Big God and He sure did take care of me! The tests they ran showed my kidney was doing better then three years ago! There is no healing my kidney as it is scarred and damaged and it is only through the power of our great BIG God who is taking care of me that kidney function had improved. So thank you to each of you who prayed for me. God took care of me for sure. Dorian , my husband was able to come with me to the states for the first time, so that was an experience by itself. It was nice for him to see everything and meet everyone. He enjoyed the states but was ready to get back to his spanish speaking culture.

We flew back here to Honduras the 16th of July. We were both more than ready to be back and get back to work. I had missed the kids terribly and Dorian was anxious to get back to the church and see how things were going. He seemed to worry about it quite frequently while he was gone.

The day after arriving home we had an inspection here at casa from IHNFA which is like the childrens services. It was just our yearly inspection. All went well there! Then the 22nd of July we took in two new little girls, Sisi and Rosita. We had been working on their case before I went to the states. They had been picked up by the police for being in the streets the 21st and then they heard we were interested in taking them so now they are here at casa. They are loving it! It is challenging always when taking in new kids because they come with so many challenges but God is good to provide and heal their little hearts.
Rosita is unable to hear so that is just one more challenge that we face with her.
Johny continues to do well and now enters into our morning devotions with praying and singing praises. For those of you who are unaware, each day at Casa is started with a daily devotional of prayer and praise. We are having water shortages here at Casa but we manage. Please continue to take Dorian and myself before our awesome God and pray that we will be used for his glory.

Rosita

I am blogging asking for those of you to pray for Rosita. She has been here a little over a week so far and we are finding she is quite the handful. She is very stubborn and not use to having consequences for her actions. So she is quite the bully at times to the other kids and even though she can not talk she is sure good at most times at letting us know what she wants in fact letting the whole town of Santa Ana know what she wants. Lets just say she has a good set of lungs on her!
Sitting with her and making here realize she is punished as she sits and kicks and refuses to take a time out reminds of the days with Cindy when she was like that. Although so many of you who read this prayed us through Cindy and now she is a different child when it comes to taking punishment. So my prayer is that God can also transform Rosita and continue to give all of us caring for her the patiences and the wisdom we need .
Although on a better note last week I got notice that we are going to get some one out here to work with her a couple of days a week for school and to do signing with her. It is a ministry in Teguc and they will come out and do it free of charge.
Also there is a sweet group of ladies here right now here working with a Torch group and they have taken Rosita under their wing and have committed to help support her and take care of her with any expenses we might have for her. Praise God!!
